Founded in 1565 by the Spanish, Saint Augustine is an old city by American Standards. I just happened to have the privilage of growing up in Saint Augustine in the 70s and 80s. I left to find my fortune in the late 80s and was gone for 30 years before returning to my home. A lot has changed, and a lot has not. This city rejects shimmer and sparkle, preferring to shine with that dirty earth tone it has always had. When people move here or visit the city, they focus on the iconic buildings built by Henry Flagler, the Castillo de San Marcos, Fort Matanzas, the lions on the bridge or any number of fantastic uniquely European architecture that can be seen. For me the city is home and the things that make it home for me are the other things which I have attempted to show here.
